Junk Food Dinner, a cult movie podcast hosted by three geeks from Ohio with too much time on their hands, namely Parker Bowman, Mark Freado Jr. and Kevin Moss. This is one of those long-ass podcasts, with episodes frequently stretching to the 2 hour mark. Each episode features discussions about three cult movies from various genres (mostly sci-fi, horror and action flicks), plus movie news, latest DVD and Blu-Ray releases, fan mail read-outs, punk rock, witty Skype banter and lots of soundboard hijinks.

This show is ideal for picking up on new shit to add to your ever-expanding IMDB watchlist so I check out most of the episodes, especially when they happen to talk about movies I know about. New episodes come out every week and there are many special episodes during various months of the year, like Schlocktober (when they only deal in gruesome horror movies) or Sci-fi-ebruary, which is dedicated to sci-fi movies. The guys hosting it are funny and laid back, there's tons of jokes and laughter and they know the guys from Kissing Contest and sometimes cross-reference stuff that's happened on their podcast. Pretty cool, if you're an avid listener such as myself. Their website is also full of useful information, an up-to-date show archive, a list of movies they've covered and all sorts of other cool shit.

I would definitely recommend Junk Food Dinner to anyone who calls him or herself a movie fanatic. These guys totally know their cult movies and their podcast is an absolute joy to listen to. Thanks for the episodes and keep on truckin', dudes!

BEDTIME PODCAST REVIEW: Hellcast Metal Podcast

Bedtime Podcast Review is where I tell you all about the podcasts I listen to in bed, late at night, while trying to fall asleep, because I'm a baby who hates sleeping without his beloved iPod. Since black metal or other noisy music tends to keep me up until the early hours of morning, I usually resort to my small, but constantly expanding catalogue of podcasts I follow. On the first iteration of this column, I talked about my favorite comedy movie podcast, Kissing Contest. Now, it's time to BRING OUT THE METAL, BR0!!!

The Hellcast Metal Podcast is a comedy METAL podcast affiliated with the Hell's Headbangers label and distro. The show is hosted by two dudes who go by the names of Ripper and Eddie Satan and episodes come out on a bi-monthly basis, sort of. But not always. There can be more episodes per month, or there can be less. Obviously, the hosts play a big part in the success of a podcast. These guys are doing a hell of a job here - they're both funny, they have lots of crazy stories about death metal concerts, douchebag Slayer fans and whatnot and they seem to know their metal pretty well. They're also huge Nunslaughter fans and are even friends with Don of the Dead (he co-hosts the show on one episode!!), so bonus points for that.

Episodes usually feature a lot of funny banter and metal chat, along with a segment where they purposefully listen to bands like Design the Skyline and go WOAH THIS SUCKS BALLSACK HOLY SHIT THIS IS BAD (pretty annoying to me), an interview with some well-known metal dude (they recently interviewed Chris Reifert from Autopsy, wooooo!) and lots of metal music. Each episode usually has around 10 to 15 songs, mostly in the old-school sounding death, black and thrash metal, so there's no technical death metal or wigger slam to be found on this show. I can't really complain, as most of  the music they play is bitchin' and I always write down some bands to check out after each episode.

Admittedly, my experience with metal podcasts is fairly limited. Even so, I have to give it to these guys: Hellcast has immediately become my favorite metal podcast on the internet right now. Between two great hosts, cool interviews, ass-ripping music and really good production values, there are virtually no reasons not to tune in to every episode. Obviously, these guys need no plugging from a sweet bro such as myself, but nevertheless, if you were looking for a funny metal podcast with tons of good music, look no further than the Hellcast. It's good for you!

BEDTIME PODCAST REVIEW: Kissing Contest

As most of you probably don't know, I usually fall asleep while listening to stuff on my iPod because I'm a baby and hearing people talk soothes me. Over the years, I've fallen asleep on countless nights while listening to the amazing Grand Theft Auto talkshows or to George Carlin's endless rants - I've gone through most of his live shows, as well as his audiobooks - and it's all been good. Unfortunately, there's only so many times you can listen to Integrity 2.0 before you start learning all the lines by heart. So, recently, I've turned my attention towards podcasts. It's uncharted territory for me, but I've started exploring various podcasts to support my bizarre nighttime addiction. So Bedtime Podcast Review will be about whatever the fuck I happen to listen to while falling asleep. I hope this will be useful for somebody. And if not, oh well... I tried.

Let's kick things off with my current favorite podcast, Kissing Contest, which is, as the hosts put it, a "comedy podcast about movies, television, sweet boys, pleasant fellows and hard-ass men." The show is usually hosted by Mike and Sawyer, two dudes in Brooklyn, with producer Doan joining in the fun most of the time and a few choice guests coming in from time to time. When it comes to podcasts, the hosts make or break the show, so I'm happy to say that Sawyer, Mike and Doan are some legitimately funny dudes who frequently engage in hilarious banter about whatever movie or actor they're talking about at the time. I've literally chuckled under my blanket more times than I can count while listening to these guys poke fun at movies and at each other. The audio quality is great and each host can be heard clearly, which is obviously a big plus. There are occasional background noises, but they're few and far between.

Each weekly episode of Kissing Contest follows a basic structure with a few segments that carry over between episodes. They usually feature movie news, a run-down of upcoming movies and a segment called Movie Hostage, where Mike and Sawyer force each other to watch movies they've never seen before and talk about it afterwards. They've recently started to regularly feature Snax Chat aka Mike and Doan Eat Shit, which is an entire segment devoted to movie snacks, featuring in-depth reviews of various brands of chips and stuff. It's easily my favorite segment and I look forward to it every time. There are various other topics unique for each episode, like big movie disappointments, best movie athletes, movie reviews, favorite movie babes and other stuff like that.

The episodes all run at about an hour and a half to two hours, so there's plenty of meat on these bones to keep you satisfied until next week's episode rolls over. They're nearing their 100th episode (latest episode is #92) so there's also a sizable archive of older episodes to go through if you're so inclined. All in all, I highly recommend Kissing Contest. It's funny, it's entertaining, it's hosted by some great dudes, it has its fair share of crass humor and, through it all, it still manages to be informative. I always end up with a few "movies I need to watch" notes after each episode.

As a downside, though, I should mention that it got me watching Extreme Couponing and My Strange Addiction. Those are some god-awful shows and I wish I had never heard of them.
